Normally, I would be writing about wine this morning (and I get back to that next week) but I wanted to say a few things today about a show I saw in Branson Saturday night.
I took in the Liverpool Legends show at the Starlite Theater. In a word, it was out-of-sight.
I am a child of the Beatles era having watched them on the first Ed Sullivan Show more than 40 years ago. Most of the music on my iPod is Beatles music. I still own the original LPS of everything from Rubber Soul to Sgt. Peppers.
There have been other imitators of the Beatles. All have been off the mark. But the Liverpool Legends have it down perfectly.
As a musician of the 1960s, we tried to play some of the then-current Beatles songs including “Hey Jude,” “Get Back” and “Back in the U.S.S.R.” We tried our best but duplicating that Beatles’ sound was very, very hard.
But that’s what’s so impressive about the Liverpool Legends. They do it right.
Fans may forget that the Beatles didn’t tour after 1966 yet they continued to create music that was originated in a music studio. They recorded it and then let the record speak for them.
For the Liverpool Legends, their difficult task is to reproduce that Beatles sound live and in person without the help of musical tracks, voice recordings or lip syncing.
I know a little bit about music and I have not heard a better reproduction of the Beatles’ sound and their musical nuances than I have with these guys. From “Twist and Shout” to “Strawberry Field Forever,” the Liverpool Legends had the sound down perfectly.
True, it’s impossible to exactly reproduce Paul, John, George or Ringo’s voice, the Liverpool Legends get very
close.
The audience also gets a chance to talk with Louise Harrison, George’s sister, who operates the theater and takes questions during intermission. The archive footage of the Beatles U.S. invasion and other U.S. appearances is great stuff, too, and make the experience that much more enjoyable and lifelike.
It’s a fun show that will find you getting out of your seat and dancing along. Surely, you will be singing along because the group encourages you to do so. You leave humming your favorite Fab Four tune.
I hope you will all take the show in.
