I’m not a big white wine drinker but when I find something that grabs my attention, I want to tell you all about it.
Esperanza Verdejo/Viura 2005 from Spain is an excellent white wine. It’s an intensely aromatic bouquet filled with delicate scent of spring flowers, green apple and white peaches. The wine offers an intricate play of flavors and textures on the palate with ripe fruit, refreshing acidity and a touch of crisp minerality.
Esperanza is a blend of 50% Verdejo, which provides body, structure, and aromas and 50% Viura that provides finesse and a touch of acidity. Absolutely no oak touches this wine. It is fermented and stored in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the delicious fruit flavors and aromas. This wine is delicious on its own, and would gracefully accompany most seafood and poultry dishes or a light soufflé of vegetables and fresh herbs. It would be a great wine to go with those holiday meals that include chicken, turkey or ham.
Don’t forget our holiday wine club meeting Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. It’s bound to be a lot of fun. We will have some food to nibble on and some great wines to try. Call the market to let us know you’re coming. Last month, we had 31 attend so call early to get your place saved. Call 1-800-222-4734.
