We made the trip to Hermann Saturday for the annual Chocolate Trail that the wineries put on.
Six wineries offered chocolate-based desserts and the appropriate wine pairing for visitors who paid $30 each for the festival.
There some great desserts and even greater wines offered during the occasion, among them the port wines samples at Stonehill Winery and the Adam Puchta Winery.
Adam Puchta also offered its Jazz Berry wine that we offer at the Diamond Ridge Wine Market.
Jazz Berry is the perfect partner for chocoholics. It’s a fruity, sweet wine with intense bouquets and taste of fresh raspberries. You can serve it chilled with desserts made with dark chocolate, creme brulee, custards and even over ice cream.
The Anniversary Port they served was also a hit for those who didn’t want the sweeter alternative. It was very smooth and had a great amber-like color.
Stonehill’s port is produced in very limited quantities using traditional methods. A vintage port is the wine of a single harvest and shows the characteristics of that year. Matured in oak casks, this rich dark port can be enjoyed now, but should continue to develop in the bottle for many years.
I really liked this port, too.
My favorite dessert was also served at Stonehill. It was a chocolate crown cookie. I will include the recipe in the next newsletter.
Don’t forget we meet this Thursday (Feb. 26) at 6 p.m. Please call the store if you’re planning to come.
