Could the Dixie Chicks be making a comeback–as a duo? Sisters Emily Robison and Martie Maguire have recorded an album for Columbia Records, without Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines?
Natalie’s father, Lloyd Maines, told CMT that the sisters have been cutting demos, with and without Natalie, for about a year. “I know that Martie’s doing a fiddle record on her own, and that Emily has been doing some of her (own) songs. I played on some of those.” Lloyd said.
Natalie’s father went on to say that even though they are not working together as a trio right now, they are all still very close to one another. “They were all here at my house for Christmas,” Lloyd said. “Everybody seemed happy and healthy. And they were back here on New Year’s Eve with their families. Everybody had a great time, but I tell you … during holidays, I don’t ask any business questions, and they didn’t offer any insight … but they’re definitely still an entity.”
He also mentioned that Martie’s bluegrass album has lots of old fiddle tunes she knew as a child and that she will be doing an instructional book to go along with the album. Emily lent her banjo skills to a few tracks. As for Martie and Emily’s album together, there’s no confirmation yet on a title, release date … or even if it will be a country album.
