It’s time to be looking at what’s new in 2009 in terms of wine.
I stopped by the Diamond Ridge Market tasting room over the weekend to check out some of the new vintages coming in. I found both a white and a red I think you should consider adding to your collection.
First, there’s the 2007 Snoqualmie Riesling from Washington. At just $10.99 a bottle, it’s a steal for such a fine white wine. One review said the wine “is crisp, refreshing, and bursting with aromas of spicy pear and dried apricots. The richly textured palate is characterized by spice and fruit as well as lingering notes of honey.” It goes very well with fruit desserts, pasta with grilled chicken and scallops with cream reduction sauce.
The red wine I wanted to recommend was the PKNT Silver Collection Cabernet that I took home and tried. It was a great wine from a vineyard in Chile whose wines I really love. This silver collection (with the silver chili on the bottle instead of its usual red version) is a deep, rich red wine that the winemaker calls lively. The rich cassis and black currant flavors combine with sweet tannins in this full-bodied red wine. This wine is ideal with grilled meats or rich pasta sauces.
I would take both of these bottles home and enjoy them in the days ahead. Speaking of the days ahead, we are having our monthly wine club meeting Jan. 22, a week earlier than normal. It will start at 6 p.m. as usual and we hope to have a good turnout.
Call the store to reserve a seat at our fun gathering at 1-800-222-4734. Hope to see you there.
