The Layer Cake wines represent countries, people and traditions of craftsmanship. The wines are all rich, lush and complex expressions of a unique varietal from a place like no other.
The three Layer Cakes we sampled were: Layer Cake Malbec, Layer Cake Cotes du Rhone, Layer Cake Primitivo aka Zinfandel
All were big winners at the club meeting. We showed the members how decanting a wine for several hours will change the taste and texture of the wine and how it brings the richness to the wine that isn’t there when you simply open the bottle and pour it in a glass.
The wines are full of dark cherry, plum, blue and blackberries that carry a long finish that drapes the throat.
At less than $20 a bottle, these wines are the equivalent to wines that cost three times that amount.
