I spent a little time downtown this weekend taking in local theater and getting a jump on the St. Patrick’s Day celebration.
One of our regular stops downtown is the Mud Lounge, where adults can go for a quiet drink and not be bombarded by heavy metal music and screaming adult-wanna-bes.
The wine list there is limited but very good.
In fact, two of the wines sold by the glass there are sold by the bottle at the Diamond Ridge Market.
First, there’s one of my all-time favorites — Ravenswood Zinfandel. This is a terrific red wine that has a great nose and wonderful deep, rich finish. The color is just amazing and it’s very drinkable, glass after glass. It’s a bold red that folks at Ravenswood said is not some wimpy wine, far from it. It’s a big red!
The second wine at Mud Lounge that you will find at the Diamond Ridge Market is the Umberto Fiore Moscato D’Asti. It’s my wife’s favorite and she likes it as either a pre-dinner cocktail or after a meal.
This white wine is pale straw in color, aromas of peaches and a light floral essence. It is slightly effervescent and sweet, giving this wine crisp and refreshing character.
So, there you go. Have a glass downtown or come by the store and get an entire bottle.
And remember, wine club meeting March 26 at 6 p.m.
