Ask The Experts Questions & Answers

Randall asks: Is it ok to wear a felt hat during the Spring and Summer? I have heard that you are not supposed to wear felt during these seasons.

PFI Expert Ron answers: The wearing of either felt or straw is really up to the individual. With that said most people will change from felt to straw on Easter and will change back to felt when tempertures start dropping (no real exact date). Again it’s really up to you (felt hats are hotter in the summer).

Wayne asks: I bought a pair of Ariat boots last year, and when I tend to wear them for a long period of time they tend to put a bluster on my heel. Why is that and what can I do to prevent this from happening every time?

PFI Expert Ron answers: Without seeing the boots and how they are fitting I will have to give you some guidelines. Hopefully you had a little slipage in the heel when you bought the boots. Sometimes if the boots are to tight when bought they will cause blisters on the heels.

Debra asks: I have a head strong TWH and at this time I am using the curb bit. This is not working great when I really need it. What type of bit would you recommend, that does not pinch?

PFI Expert Josh answers: That is truly a tough question. The variable in this scenario is the horse. Every horse can respond differently to different bits. I personally would recommend finding a trainer or horseman in your area that has a broad variety of bits that you could use to try with your horse. I would begin by reverting back to a simple O Ring snaffle, and progress forward from there. Horses become “hard mouthed”, and your horse may need to revert back and go through some of the beginning training steps. This can soften their mouth back up, and encourage them to become more responsive to the bit. Finding someone with several bridles you could try would be the best solution, I feel.

Lucie asks: I am interested in buying a pair of your boots and I was just wondering are all of your boots completely real leather? If so where do you get the hides from?

PFI Expert Ron answers: Thank you for your question. Most all of our adult boots are all leather. As for where the hides come from. Each boot company has a tannery that they get there own leathers from.

Kathleen asks: My daughter got her brand new boots completely covered in mud & manure. They are Ariat Fat Babies. How do I get them cleaned?

PFI Expert Ron answers: Try cleaning them with either Dawn or Joy dishwashing soap. Just a little soapy water. Wash them, let them dry, and put leather conditioner on them. If she plans on wearing them in that type of area, spray them with water protection and stain protection. Both the conditioner and spray we carry.

Eileen asks: Is there ANY way to remove an oil based stain from leather?

PFI Expert Ron answers: With out knowing exactly what kind of leather and what kind of oil (motor, cooking, etc) you have I will answer based on general cowhide leather. One way is to try lava soap (do not scrub hard) light lather of the soap will most times lift oil out of the leather. A good preventative measure is to spray boots with water and stain protector, this will provide a barrier to help keep oils out.

Amanda asks: Hello! I am trying to purchase boots for my wedding and I really like your style number Style # CY7188 BARN/PEARL Lucchese boots. However, I was wondering if it was possible to have them made with a larger calf and in burgundy thread rather than red thread.

PFI Expert Ron answers: Thank you for your question. The Lucchese CY7188 is a PFI exclusive and as such cannot be special ordered. The shaft of the boot is12in tall and is a scalloped design which dips down front and back to 9in. This design allows for up to around a 17in calf muscle. The thread in the shaft is very close to a burgundy not quite as dark. Again thank you for your question and for Shopping Western Style with PFI.

Ashka asks: Do u have any baby boots in about a size 1?

PFI Expert Ron answers: We do have a new Dingo Pups baby boot in sizes 1 thru 3 in brown and pink.

Steven asks: First I’d like to say we enjoy shopping at your store. We come to Springfield a few times a year for a weekend get away and always end spending a lot of money at your store. We even stay at the Deerfield Inn (best western) because it’s close. Ok, my questions is, we’re comming out there on vanentines weekend and I want it to be a special weekend. We’ve been married for 32 years neither of us are experenced with wine (or any acohol) and know nothing about it but would like to try it this time. Is there someone there that can help us choose the right one and let us in on the do’s and don’ts of drinking wine?

PFI Expert Josh answers: Wine buying can be an in-depth experience. We have a full time wine specialist on staff to insure that you are informed about your purchase, and have selected a wine adequate for your tastes. We have over 500 wines in stock, and our tasting bar is open 7 days a week. We have many different cheeses to pair with an appropriate wine for your special weekend. Congrats on your continued success, and look forward to seeing you soon.

Judy asks:Can you give me any information on the circle Y Omaha 1554 1548 5600 0700 01 Park and Trail saddle. Age, new price, is it a trail saddle. It is a flex style. Do you still carry this saddle? Thanks for any information you can give me.

PFI Expert Josh answers: Circle Y still has the Omaha in their line of saddles. It remains as model 1554. It has been a great saddle for many years. The particular serial number you have given me is for a 16″ seat in the dark oil color. The saddle you have given me the serial number from was produced in July of 2000. The Omaha is part of the Flex 2 series that feature the new Flex 2 tree. They are part of the Park and Trail category. They retail for $1595. That is a saddle we normally stock, but have sold out of the 16″; but will be replenishing stock shortly. Keep checking our website for new styles, and availability on this saddle.

Brandon asks: How does the pack max saddle rig up to your horse? Do you use a saddle or does it come with straps?

PFI Expert Josh answers: The Trail Max Pack a Saddle comes with two different options. It is able to be used over the top of a regular western saddle, or you can change out the middle section and it can the be used with a standard cross-buck style pack saddle. This makes it extremely versatile. You can use it on a pack animal or quickly change it to be used on a riding animal.

Hannahbella asks: HI! I am usually a size 0, 36. I really do not prefer the cruel girl jeans that have a heavy denim, and I usually like a lower rise stretch, with kick slits. Any suggestions?

Also, Wrangler’s Sunshine on a Cloudy Day jeans are from the Wranglers Premium Patch Collection. These low rise, boot cut jeans do not feature kick slits, but are stretch denim. Carrie asks: I have and love the Women’s Wrangler Premium Patch low rise jeans in blue onyx. Any suggestions for more, similar fitting jeans (Wrangler or another brand)?

PFI Expert Kim answers: In response to your question, we have a few styles that you might be interested in. They can be viewed online at www.pfiwestern.com. We have 2 from the premium patch collection that you liked and they are the Razzle Dazzle and the Sunshine on a Cloudy Day styles. We have both fashion jeans and the more traditional 5 pocket jeans that might be of interest to you. As far as basics, Cruel Girl has a few styles featuring stretch denim: Styles Dakota and Georgia are a few. We are also carrying Miss Me jeans which have a little more sparkle and lot more bling! They are terrific and we sell through these constantly! You might also find the Wrangler 20X Jackson Texas Lone Star Jeans and the Wrangler 20X Houston California Girl (lowest rise) to your liking.

Kittie asks: What size is the small boy’s shirt? I am a special ed teacher and 10 of my kiddos were chosen to go to the Houston Livestock show and rodeo for the RITE program to perform and I would like to purchase the boys and girls shirts as a reward for being chosen!

PFI Expert Kim answers: First, I would like to say “congratulations” on having your group chosen to perform at the Houston Livestock show and rodeo! I’m sure you are very proud and they must be very excited. They sound like an amazing group of kids. You asked a good question regarding the sizing of the boys’ small shirts and the answer is going to depend mainly on what brand of shirt you are seeking. For example, a Wrangler shirt size S is a 5/6 where as the brand Roper is a 6/7. Our t-shirts vary as well, but are normally between a size 6-8 range.

Kim asks: What is the difference between your two wrangler denim snap shirts, style 99953 and 70127?

PFI Expert Kim answers: The difference between the two styles is that style 70127 is a Big and Tall style. It will normally have a longer sleeve length than the regular style 99953.

Chris asks: Where do I get the Wrangler jeans that country singer Jason Aldean wears?

PFI Expert Kim answers: You can find the Wrangler Retro Jeans that Jason Aldean wears on our website www.pfiwestern.com or if you are here in Springfield, MO, come into the store. We carry them in 4 different washes: Antique, Trail Worn, True Blue and Worn Black.

Mark asks: Does Wrangler still make the brushpopper line of shirts?

PFI Expert Kim answers: We do not carry a style of brush popper shirt. I also did a search on the Wrangler website and did not find any listed on their site either. My best suggestion would to be to contact Wrangler directly.

Raymond asks: Do your mens boots come in narrow widths?

PFI Expert Ron answers: We do carry boots in B, A, AA, AAA in some brands and styles. On the web site check out the Lucchese, Rios Of Mercedes, Anderson Bean, Double H and a very few Ariat. When looking at them click on the the size you need and then the width, the avaiable widths will show up.

Richard asks: Last week on pfi western wear on RFD tv you showcased some Ariat boots that had some kind of heel area that expanded when you put your boot on so that those with high arches could slid into them easier. Could you please tell me what model those boots were?

PFI Expert Ron answers: They are the Work Hog line of boots from Ariat. You can find them on our web site by doing a search for Work Hog, and all available styles will be displayed.

Jimmy asks: Are there are any round toe boots with a leather sole? Something that could be used for any kind of line-dancing or two-stepping?

PFI Expert Ron answers: Thank you for the question! There are still boots available with leather soles. To make it easier to find them, go to www.pfiwestern.com, click on Cowboy Boots, choose either mens or womens, then go down the left side of the page and click on leather sole, and all available styles will be listed.
