We know you want to keep your cowboy hat looking sharp at all times, so we’ve put together a few tips on the best way to clean and store them. Whether you’re wearing them out or storing them for a season, keep them in top shape with these helpful hints!
Cleaning
- If you have a straw cowboy hat, just wipe it off with a damp cloth.
- If you have a felt hat, use a soft brush or sponge in a counterclockwise motion toward the back of the hat and around.
- If you’re using a brush to clean your hat, try to get one with bristles in a similar color to your hat, just to be safe.
Storing
- Always store your cowboy hat upside down on the crown to keep its shape. Storing right side up with the brim down can cause the brim to flatten and the hat to lose its shape. That’s especially unfortunate if you’ve had your hat custom fitted!
- Never leave your hat in the heat, including your car or trunk on even a mild summer day. Heat causes the sweatband in your cowboy hat to shrink, and when the sweatband shrinks, so does the entire hat.
- If you’re storing your cowboy hat for a long period of time, invest in a hat box. This will protect your cowboy hat from dust, light, and overall damage. If you’re just storing it for a few days or weeks, a hat hanger works well, too.
